David Crane joins RetroGameCon 5!

David Crane is a legendary game designer and programmer who created several mega-hits for the Atari 2600, including Pitfall!, the second best-selling game on the Atari behind Pac-Man!

Pitfall sold over 4 million copies in the 1980s and was a breakthrough in the platformer genre which went on to inspire countless video games, and it’s legacy as one of the best early video games continues through today.

In 1979, David also co-founded Activision, the world’s first third-party video game developer, and today the largest publisher of video games in the country. He is also known as the co-founder of Absolute Entertainment, which produced several successful games in the 1990s including David Crane’s Amazing Tennis and A Boy and His Blob: Trouble on Blobolonia for the NES, plus several of the Simpsons games for the Game Boy and NES systems.

David will be joining us at RetroGameCon 5 to discuss those early days, and to meet with attendees and sign some cartridges!

It’s a huge honor to welcome David, a true pioneer of the video game industry, to Syracuse! We can’t wait to meet him!

Music At RetroGameCon 5!

Today is the first official day of summer and that means things are ramping up for RetroGameCon 5!

News and info about this year’s epic 5-year anniversary show will be coming fast in the coming months, and we’re starting out by announcing some of our awesome musical guests!

Chipocrite, AKA Paul Weinstein returns for his third year performing at RGC! Paul has performed his chiptune masterpieces at many shows such as the Vans Warped Tour, Blip Festival, MAGFest, PAX, and AnimeNEXT, as well as providing the soundtracks for commercials, video games, and online videos. He is currently working on the soundtrack for “Earthnight”, a highly anticipated rogue-like runner game coming soon to PS4 and other devices!

Also joining us will be the one and only Danimal Cannon, who you may know from Armcannon, Metroid Metal, his TEDx Talk, or from getting your face shredded off at any number of conventions/shows he’s played at. His work has been featured on sites like OverClocked ReMix, and on many video game soundtracks. If Danimal Cannon’s music is new to you, check out the song “Axis” from his fourth studio album, Lunaria, which was released last year.

We’re also please to announce that Epic Game Music will be joining us on our main stage this year. Epic Game Music is a show that takes all your favorite video game music and remixes the songs into original masterpieces of sonic goodness. From the retro game era to the current console generation Epic Game Music’s guitar covers breathe new life into all corners of gaming music. Join James Ronald as he battles his way across the history of game music with his trusty electric battle guitar of justice!

Last, but not least, our house DJ, DJ Silenze will be spinning video game inspired music all day on the show floor of RetroGameCon 5.

More announcements coming soon!
